From 2020 the Sunshine Coast will be home to Australia’s fastest telecommunications connection to Asia from the east-coast and second fastest to the United States – courtesy of a new international submarine cable that connects the Sunshine Coast to the 7000 kilometre Japan-Guam-Australia South submarine cable delivered by a consortium involving RTI-C.
“Without a doubt, this communications infrastructure investment will result in a significant point of difference for the Sunshine Coast and will stimulate investment and jobs growth on the Sunshine Coast and, thanks to the superior telecommunications connectivity and data infrastructure, could serve to attract some of the world’s biggest data users to our region” says Mayor Jamieson.
RTI CEO Russ Matulich said the investment by the Sunshine Coast council and the Queensland Government placed the Sunshine Coast on the business map of the world.
There is a lot of expectation resting on what this international submarine cable landing can do to stimulate economic growth on the Sunshine Coast and indeed for Queensland.
This conference is about pushing through the myths and hype to understand what it may mean in terms of ‘super charging’ economic growth through the creation of new industries, new jobs and understanding the future economic possibilities which will be the primary focus of the conference.
Speakers will cover:
- benefits and impacts of submarine cables to regional and national economies
- leveraging this capability to create new industries and jobs
- managing opportunities and risks so economic benefit driven by transformational digitalisation - courtesy the international submarine cable – will be maximised.
