Community Forest Choir - Day Workshop with Skyglass

We invite you to a day of workshops conducted by the members of Skyglass - teaching two choir pieces for singing enthusiasts, and those interested in playing tuned percussion riffs or plucked strings.

Session #1: In the Forest with Anne Norman
“In the Forest” is a fun multi-part vocal piece with easy melodies and harmonies accompanied by funky riffs on tuned percussion made from aggy-pipes. Inspired by a morning spent in an old-growth forest in the Tarkine observing moss covered logs and beautiful ferns, listening to the sounds in the myrtle canopy high above... then failing to find my way out of the forest again! Eventually rescued by the fellow forest wanderer. The music and lyrics are playful and super catchy. Warning... ear-worms abound. While the main focus will be on singing, participants who can play a plucked string instrument or tuned percussion (with the pitches DEFGA) may pre-register to receive a simple score or chart by email if you wish to BYO instrument.

Session #2: Memory Palace with Emily Sheppard
“Memory Palace” was born in Hastings Cave. It pays homage to the original inhabitants of southern Tasmania, the Lylequonny people. It reflects the sadness of the loss of generations of knowledge held in aural culture, and the shortfalls of writing as a memory holder. The multi-part choir sections are simple but satisfying to sing, interweaving to create a rich and expressive texture.

Young participants (12-17) must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times. Younger children may not attend.

Participants will be videoed. Your registration to take part requires your consent to be videoed.
