Free Lunchtime Concerts

Be transported from the everyday by our free lunchtime concert series, featuring the best musical talent from within the UWA Conservatorium of Music and around the country.

In order to adhere to room capacities and appropriate social distancing, until WA enters Phase 5 our Lunchtime Concerts will be ticketed events. Entry is free but bookings are essential.

29 Jul - Sara Macliver & Gladys Chua
Soprano Sara Macliver and pianist Gladys Chua perform some of their favourite works for voice and piano including Grieg's 'Haugtussa' and Ravel's 'Five Greek Songs'.

5 Aug - Solo Bach with Shaun Lee-Chen (violin) 
Join us this week as UWA Chair of Violins and concertmaster of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Shaun Lee-Chen, performs Bach's Partita no. 2 in D minor.

12 Aug - UWA Guitar Studio 
The UWA Guitar Studio will present a free concert of solo and chamber repertoire. 

19 Aug - UWA Voice 
Transcend the everyday in our free lunchtime concert featuring the sublime sounds of UWA voice students. These emerging young artists will present a mixed program of songs and arias, including Mahler's Songs of a Wayfarer sung by Honours student David Woods. 

26 Aug - MSS Take-over 
The Music Students’ Society invites YOU up onto our stage to join us in an improvised jam session, on the theme of ‘call and response’. Whether you have a musical background or not, anyone can make a sound, all it takes is a willingness to have a go! So, bring your instruments, clap your hands, sing along, or try out one of our percussion instruments, there are no wrong notes! And if you're still not convinced, take a note from our UWA improvisation specialist Gemma Turvey, who will be giving an inspirational pre-jam talk!

2 Sept - Fluxus 
Head of Contemporary Music, Ashley Smith, and Head of Electronic Composition, Chris Tonkin, inspire a community of young artists to discover new worlds and ideas in music. They will explore the edge between noise and music, activity and performance in this not to be missed immersive experience.

9 Sept - UWA Wind Orchestra
The UWA Wind Orchestra, under the baton of Dr Paul De Cinque and Master of Music student Chris Milne present a program of works including:  
HYDE – Village Fair (tr. De Cinque)
LEDGER – Indian Pacific (tr. De Cinque)
GRANDAGE – Magnetic
GRAINGER – Faeroe Island Dance
 
16 Sept - UWA Brass
an exciting concert featuring our talented brass students. The program will include solo works plus those for Brass Ensemble. 
 
23 Sept - UWA Winds
Join us this week for an exciting concert featuring students from the UWA Woodwind Program.
 
7 Oct - The Music of Nicholas Bannan
Dr Nicholas Bannan is an accomplished international composer, conductor, music researcher. In 2020 Nicholas will be retiring from UWA so we invite you to join us for a special Lunchtime Concert featuring works written by Nicholas and performed by students and staff of the Conservatorium.
 
14 Oct - UWA Voice
Transcend the everyday in a concert featuring the sublime sounds of UWA voice students. These emerging young artists will present a mixed program of songs and arias ahead of their end of semester exams and recitals
 
21 Oct - End of Year Celebration
The Conservatorium celebrates a busy year of music-making with this special culmination concert to farewell its 2020 concert series. Featuring a jam-packed program celebrating our outstanding emerging artists!
