'Those Folk' - an intimate warehouse concert

Truly authentic, naturally charismatic, and delightfully entertaining, Lawrence Menard (USA) and Clare Quinn (AUS) are the transpacific troubadours known as ‘Those Folk’. With Lawrence’s Cajun beginnings and Californian upbringing melding with Clare’s grounding in Australian folk music, their musical inspiration is diverse and ever expanding. Their worlds collided on the streets of Edinburgh, Scotland in 2012 and the pair have been an inseparable duo ever since. Their intimate stage show is constantly evolving with the introduction of new instruments. Vocal harmonies are featured alongside guitar, mandolin, banjo, accordion, harmonica, and percussion. Clare has an effervescence that is contagious and her vocal range is extraordinary. Lawrence is a talented multi-instrumentalist, with an intuitive musical ear. Lawrence and Clare have an on-stage chemistry that is radiant and audiences can appreciate the connection between them and the way that it influences their musical harmony.

Switchblade stares are a collection of Garage surf rockabilly and vengeful blues that no one asked for, think fast cars, alleyway knife fights, cheap horror movies but with songs of love, romance and devotion. Front man Switch Gere plays a mean wild guitar that twangs your metal fillings right from your mouth and is sometimes accompanied by his cousin Ledger Lennox wailing on alto saxophone that’s if he ever shows up as he’s busy botching the books for greaser gangs and crooks, so come along wear your favourite leather jacket and blue suede shoes enjoy some rock n roll and have a rockin good time baby! Switchblade Stares is made up of Jordy Whearty (Los Pintar and Fast Fwd) and Joshua Gluck (Hello Tut Tut)

With an expansive album of new material to perform, the duo engage in an exciting musical dialogue, a dance which is at once playful, lyrical and deeply moving. We will begin the first half of the evening with a series of quick drawing exercises & after a short break, resume the second half with longer poses and time to lose yourself to the art and tunes. Beginner Tapestry Weaving with Gem from "Woven Folk"

During this workshop you will learn the basics of tapestry weaving on a frame loom. We will cover warping the loom and experimenting with several easy to follow weaving techniques, how to finish a weave, discussion about different design methods and how to find your unique style. The aim of the workshop is to create a woven wall hanging from start to finish! Participants will be given a take home kit to continue their weaving journey. In this workshop we will cover two different topics; Part 1 An introduction to the magic of herbal teas... Learn the why, what & how to create the perfect herbal tea for your individual needs. Part 2 Learn how to make both an oxymel and an electuary to take home. Oxymels are mixtures of honey, vinegar and herbs used medicinally (or added to your favourite beverage) An electuary is a mix of herbs and honey which can be used to infuse a bit of medicinal goodness into your food/hot drinks or simply taken neat on a spoon for an array of benefits. Karen will talk us through the benefits of several herbs and give loads of tips and guidance, so make sure to bring a paper and pen for note taking!
