The Children's Book Council is an Australia-wide organisation which aims to foster children's enjoyment of books. The Qld Branch is organised by volunteers and operates out of the Qld Writers Centre located in the State Library of Queensland (SLQ).

The FNQ Regional Readers’ Cup has become a regular event on many school calendars for the past decade. The competition is an initiative of the Children’s Book Council of Australia designed to encourage students who enjoy reading, to work together as a team and then to compete in a quiz style competition. This year we are holding a regional Year 9/10 section at Cairns State High School on Wednesday, 21st August.
