ANU Community Music Centre
The ANU Community Music Centre is an artsACT funded program delivered through the ANU School of Music.
The aim of the Community Music Centre is to provide developing musicians with a supportive and nurturing social environment in which they can improve their technical and theoretical knowledge of music, interact and share their love of music with their peers, and rub shoulders with the world of professional music-making.

In the 90-minute masterclass/workshop, members of Number Junky share their approach to performing, composing and improvising in odd meter. Drawing on the trio's original repertoire and extensive experience working with irregular meter, the session explores how odd meter can become a natural and expressive part of music-making.
The session will include live performance demonstrations, discussion of selected works from Number Junky's repertoire, and practical exercises designed to help participants develop confidence with irregular rhythmic structures. Topics may include:
Hearing and feeling odd meter beyond counting.
Approaches to groove, phrasing and ensemble interaction.
How rhythmic groupings can inspire melodic and compositional ideas.
Strategies for improvising in asymmetrical meters.
Practice techniques for developing rhythmic fluency.
Opportunities for participant involvement and discussion.
Suitable for musicians, composers and improvisers of all backgrounds, this masterclass offers insight into Number Junky's creative process while providing practical tools that participants can apply to their own music-making.

Goran Jurković Masterclass & Performance

Goran Jurković will share his expertise through a masterclass and performance, made possible by the Croatian Embassy.
Jurković is an acclaimed performer and versatile educator, and is an established local and international figure of contemporary saxophone. He is a member of Papandopulo Quartet and Mobilis Saxophonquartet, and is the founder of the successful seminar, "Saxophone School in Jaska", which welcomes more than 50 participants each year to his hometown.
