Piazzolla, Tango and Spain

Saturday 27 May 2023
Sink into the sumptuous sounds of the great Argentinian composer Ástor Piazzolla, in the intimate surroundings of the theatre at The Playhouse Hotel, Barraba. Piazzolla (1921 - 1992) created the electrifying nuevo tango style, bridging the gap between street music and the concert hall. This concert features vocalisations of some of his most famous works, music which is by turns tender, sensuous and thrilling. Soprano Ayse Göknur Shanal has enjoyed a prominent career as both opera singer and recital artist. She studied at London’s Royal College of Music before joining the Young Artist Development Program at New York's Metropolitan Opera. She is the winner of numerous international vocal competitions and awards. Beniamin Martin is well-known as an artist of exceptional versatility and subtlety of expression. A graduate of New York’s prestigious Juilliard School. In 2000 the music critic of The Australian dubbed him "the best young talent for the new millennium.”
