Basic Echocardiography Course 2026

The basic critical care transthoracic echocardiography course is an intensive full day course. The focus of the course is on practical sessions. This course is designed to equip participants with basic theory and the practical skills required to perform a targeted critical care study. Our aim is to teach the skills required to perform a targeted critical care scan and to provide a “stepping stone” to further echocardiography learning. To this end, an image bank of both normal findings and pathology is provided at course completion as is a list of resources to enable participants to extend their skills. Accreditation and maintenance of standards are difficult aspects of critical care echocardiography that are discussed. Please note course size is limited to 12 participants to maximise scanning time

Adult Basic Course 2026

Basic Assessment & Support in Intensive Care is a 2-day course offered by the intensive care unit of the John Hunter Hospital aimed to enable the candidate to implement the principles of ongoing management of critically ill patients post resuscitation and stabilisation phase. Overview • A course manual will be provided to you prior to the course. • The 2 day course will consist of lectures and workshops including but not limited to; Mechanical Ventilation, Vascular & Intra-osseous Access and Trauma. • Pre and Post course MCQ assessments. • Certificate upon completion. Paediatric Basic 2026

‘Basic Assessment & Support in Intensive Care’ is a 2 day course offered by the Intensive Care Unit at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle This course is now recommended as a prerequisite for Intensive Care trainees by the College of Intensive Care Medicine The purpose of this course is to enable the participant to implement the principles of ongoing management of critically ill children in the post resuscitation and stabilisation phase. This course is designed for current critical care medical officers and nurses. Target audience: • Junior Intensive Care Doctors with more than 6 months in ICU • Paediatrics Doctors with more than 6 months in Paediatrics • Emergency Department Doctors with more than 6 months in ED • Anaesthetic Registrars with more than 6 months in Anaesthetic Department • Senior Registered Nurses with more than 6 months in PICU.
