Megan brings her own band The Indulgence to The Lomond Hotel. Megan Bernard & The Indulgence began as an improv band, getting together regularly and playing until all musical and sonic threads had been explored. Jams were broken up only for cups of tea and a few rounds of Bananagrams. Eventually Megan said, “Hey, I think it’s time we learnt some of my songs.” Carl Pannuzzo (keys/synth), Dave Evans (bass) and Kalju Tonuma (drums) all agreed. The result is a live band that weaves effortlessly between its own classic hits and the freedom of improv. Tickets: $15

Moreland City Soul Revue

Sunday 12 November 2023
The Moreland City Soul Revue (MCSR) was conceived when founding members Jed Pickett (guitar) and Adrian Whitehead (Hammond organ) attended a protest rally at Trades Hall, and had the sudden realisation that the way to reach the masses was not through marching, but music. Applying the maxim ‘charity begins at home’ to protest, they investigated the local council, and discovered that they “needn’t worry about Moreland City, they know what they’re doing.” Using this for inspiration, they started the search for other musicians who would share their passion for accountability at all levels of government, similar to that they had found in their local area. Their first port of call was the rhythm section Brothers, Tim (bass) and Sam (drums), who were quick to jump on board. They enlisted Jacob Cole (guitar). These three newcomers were excited about the potential of this group in promoting the community spirit that their council embodies. Tickets: $20

The Lomond band will feature Sam Lemann, Michael Vidale, Ron Mahony & maybe a special guest…… “Having developed a reputation for delivering her country music with passion and drive, the result is a gutsy sound which is not readily found among Australian female country singers”. “Leslie Avril has the voice and charisma that puts her in a class of her own - whether she's belting out raunchy rockabilly in a crowded honky-tonk or distilling her magic in intimate cabaret”. “She's sexy, bluesy and sheer dynamite live and her stunning vocals electrify an audience with power, depth and aching honesty”.

Mark Sinton & Band

Friday 21 July 2023
Melbourne-based singer/songwriter Mark Sinton is returning to music after a lengthy sabbatical from the industry. He didn’t expect the break to be quite this long… His previous London-based band, The Gasolineros, had just completed making their debut album Nash Point with producer Charlie Francis (REM, Turin Brakes, Robyn Hitchcock, High Llamas, Minus 5 and Wilco) and were preparing for a tour of Europe, Japan and Australia in 2005 when the band ended. Mark returned permanently to Melbourne to set up home and start again. His first stint was between 1995–1997 fronting the band Carbine, who released the critically-acclaimed ‘sandvalve’ ep on Shock Records (currently featured on the ‘Stuck On The 90s: Sound As Ever’ compilation). Over a decade passed until encouragement from old musician friends found him fronting a new band, The Mansions, with ex-members of Musket and The Paradise Motel.

Vonnyguts with Holly & Zane

Saturday 24 June 2023
With Orph’s lamentably recent demise in late 2022 following an unprecedented year, Vonnyguts became the go to for McCracken’s songwriting and sensibilities, drawn from the idea of Safe Operating Limits within a somewhat toxic dystopia that is the reality of today’s world seen from a musician’s perspective. In the wake of Orph’s epic orchestrations the band feels melodic and intimate with layered vocal harmonies. McCracken - bass, lead vox (Orph, The Tulips, Deadstar, The Plums, Dangersharks) Scott - drums, vox (Orph, Heliboptor) Maughan - guitar, vox (Orph, Brothers Grim, Chamber, Dangersharks) Holly and Zane: Trip the sonic delights fantastique! The Mermaid Avenue Sessions

Sunday 19 March 2023
Songs from Mermaid Avenue play The Lomond Hotel to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the iconic album by Billy Bragg and Wilco, which set new music to previously unheard lyrics by seminal folk icon Woody Guthrie. Mermaid Avenue provided an intriguing glimpse behind the fascist-bashing folkie persona of Guthrie, revealing him to be a joker, lover, boozer and - dare we say - horndog, and spawned the classics ‘California Stars’ and ‘Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key’. “I can highly recommend a night spent listening to these wonderful local musicians interpret some classic tunes from Mermaid Avenue. A heart-warming and rousing time was had … combined with spontaneous singalongs which added to the magic of an excellent evening.” – Myles O’Neil-Shaw (PBS FM - 5 ft High & Rising) Performed by Michael Burrows, Craig Kelly, Bek Chapman, Damian Cafarella, Stirling Gill-Chambers

Tony McManus

Wednesday 15 March 2023
Conjuring a unique but universal language from that most ubiquitous of instruments, the acoustic guitar, Tony McManus has both extended and transcended the parameters of contemporary Celtic music. Ranked by peers and predecessors alike alongside the guitar world’s all-time greats, his fiendishly dexterous, dazzlingly original playing draws on traditions from the entire Celtic diaspora – Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Galicia, Asturias, Cape Breton, Quebec – along with still further-ranging flavours, such as jazz and east European music. Long applauded for his uncanny ability to transpose the delicate, complex ornamentation characteristic of traditional bagpipe or fiddle tunes – even the phrasing of a Gaelic song – onto his own six strings, McManus is increasingly being acknowledged also as a pioneering figure in bridging the realms of Celtic music and other guitar genres.

Traveling early and often, American songwriter Tim Easton learned the ways of the road and rails and spent seven years as a bonafide troubadour, making his way around Europe, playing the streets and clubs, living in Paris, London, Madrid, Prague, Dublin, and wherever else he laid his hat. It was during this period when he developed his songwriting style – folk based storytelling and personal traveling tales, often peppered with bold confessions or “tell it as it is” reality. Rolling Stone Magazine praised him as “having a novelist’s sense of humanity.” Easton has performed a duet with Lucinda Williams, busked with Beck in Paris and had the guys from Wilco play on his 2001 album ‘The Truth About Us’. This will be his 3rd visit to Australia with his guitar ‘Paco’ and his extensive repertoire he never fails to energise his audience with his unique blend of folk, blues and country. Joining Tim for the night are Melbourne’s favourite southern gothic duo The Weeping Willows. It will be the

Songs from Mermaid Avenue

Friday 4 November 2022
Michael Burrows, Craig Kelly & Bek Chapman play songs from Mermaid Avenue (Billy Bragg & Wilco, with lyrics by Woody Guthrie) It was an idea that never should have worked: British folk-rocker Billy Bragg collaborating with alt-country upstarts Wilco to put music to the unreleased lyrics of Woody Guthrie. It wouldn’t have surprised anyone if it had diminished the reputation of all involved. Instead, the 1998 release of Mermaid Avenue was a revelation, proof that Guthrie was far more than the populist, fascist-bashing folkie that he was often perceived to be – he was also capable of startlingly personal songwriting that was far ahead of its time.

His 3 albums released to date (‘A Handful Of Smoke’, ‘One More Time’ and ‘King Of The Crystal Mountain’) are all classic Australian recordings. Part Neil Young, part Lou Reed, part Nick Cave – but with a uniquely Australian twang!” - Vinny Ramone, Outpost show 2SER “…. with Ikinger’s aggressive white-noise cacophonies of guitar counter pointed by the compelling coo of her voice, each song comes on like a siren’s call from the depths…” – SOPHIE BEST, The Age (Australia)
