Are you Australia’s next Aus Poetry Slam (APS) Champion? Join us for the CQ Heat in Mackay! All you need is an original poem, and 2 minutes on the mic! Two poets from the event will be chosen to compete in the QLD State Finals, Brisbane, October 16 2025. Whether you’re performing as a poet, or supporting our local wordsmiths in the crowd, we’d love to see you! PLEASE NOTE: poetry content may not be suitable for young audiences. If you are a non-verbal poet, struggle with vocal communication or a member of the deaf community, you are welcome to have an interpreter read your poem out loud for the comp. Join us for our regular, Mackay Poetry Slam events! This is a great opportunity to practise and prepare for the official Aus Poetry Slam comp later this year. All you need is an original poem/story, and 2 minutes on the mic! WHEN: The last Thursday of every month (beginning Thursday 28 Feb) TIME: 7pm-8pm WHERE: Groover Moover Studio, Victoria Street, Mackay (Next to Pain Au Chocolat Patisserie) COST: $10 per person PRIZES: TBA! Bring your friends, your family and your words - we'd love to see and hear from you! As always, our slams are inclusive events! If you are non-verbal, hearing-impaired and/or require an interpreter/vocal representative to recite your poem, that's absolutely ok! As long as you can be next to your person, it's officially allowed!

Join us as our talented poets share their 2-minute original poem for a very special Aus Poetry Slam, Warm-Up Session! This very special Poetry Slam is also in collaboration with Mackay PrintBank. The PrintBank artists will create corresponding artworks in response to the poems they hear, with an exhibition of their works to be held in December. This is going to be a great night, and we can't wait to see you there!!
