Paint with Watercolour Workshop

Monday 3 July 2023
Be inspired by native birds and create a watercolour painting depicting the curious creatures inhabiting Eynesbury. Facilitated by local artist Naomi Leeder, in this workshop you will explore the techniques of watercolour with live demonstrations, tips and tricks, and learn about local birdlife with support from the Eynesbury Environment Group. Beginner friendly, this is a free workshop and all materials are supplied. There are 3 sessions available, please select the age-appropriate workshop when booking. Parent/guardian supervision is required for children under 14yrs. Naomi Leeder’s exhibition, Conversations with Birds is at Melton Civic Centre until 31 July.

Exhibition Opening Event: The Edge

This exhibition explores the precarious but persistent state of nature at the edge of urban growth. Centring the experiences of residents in a city preoccupied with rapid land development, artists negotiate the complex relationship between humans and land on the ‘green edge’. Focusing on the ways we interact with our fragile volcanic plains and waterways, 6 -8 artworks or installations will appear in CS Gallery and temporary art sites across the city. Join us to celebrate the work presented at CS Gallery by professional artists Pie Bolton, Vicki Kinai, Rebecca Mayo, and Alice Duncan.

NGV Kids on Tour: Character Design with Rubii Red

Children can learn the basics of character design and create the character of their dreams in this workshop devised by Melbourne- based artist Rubii Red, a proud Lama Lama woman from Cape York, Queensland. This workshop is a must for any children interested in Anime and comic books and are wanting to learn more about portraiture, abstract line work, character design and fan-art. Exhibition Opening Event: Wonderful-strong

Join us for the exhibition opening of Wonderful-strong by award winning artist and author Maxine Beneba Clarke. Held at CS Gallery, this event will include an afternoon of interactive and drop-in family friendly arts activities designed by Maxine and will draw on the exhibition themes of the Black Lives Matter movement, joyful freedom of expression in Black and inclusive fashion, and celebration of black identities. This event will follow a special Storytime with Maxine in CS Library at 12:30pm, for children (ages 3-6) to hear Maxine reading one of her own books.

Create an AFLW Affirmation Card

Come and collage funky trading cards of your favourite footy players. Collecting player cards was a staple of many of our childhoods, but in the 90s the people playing AFL often didn’t reflect the diversity of our community. With the birth of AFLW that has changed, and so we are going to reimage these cards in bold, new and colourful ways. Each card will be paired with an affirmation that speaks to you. This workshop is inspired by our current CS Gallery exhibition, Anima Animus by local artist Julie Zapasa. All materials will be provided. No artistic experience necessary, just a love of all things art and footy. This workshop is aimed at both adults and children, we encourage families to book in and make an artwork together!

Pastels in the Park with Christian Hansen

Join artist Christian Hansen for an introduction to working with pastels- en plein air – in Hannah Watts Park! Christian will guide you through a range of pastel techniques, using the natural surrounds of the park as inspiration for your work. Go at your own pace in picking up new skills and learn how local areas and histories can become immortalised through art making. Light refreshments will be served. Participants will meet at Raglan Cottage before walking to a location in the park to sketch. Certain paths may not be fully accessible, although we will do our best to ensure all workshop areas can be accessed via foot or mobility device. As with all Arts & Culture programs, please contact us before making a booking to discuss your access requirements and we will work with you to meet these needs as best we can. In the case of wet weather, the workshop will take place at Melton Library & Learning Hub.

Design a team logo and guernsey in this fun and hands-on workshop with illustrator and graphic designer Gustavo Morales. With a love for all things colourful and crafty, local artist Tess will guide you in transforming paper into flowers, bouquets, and cards. Longing for Home Exhibition Opening Event - Online

Join artist Sofie Dieu to celebrate the opening of her exhibition Longing for Home, Water Ritual. Her installation explores first generation Australian women's connection to the bush through a series of mixed media works on paper and an intricately embroidered dress made in collaboration with 50 migrant women living in suburban Melbourne. The dress features 60 embroideries depicting each woman's personal story through symbols of water, flora, fauna, immigration and womanhood.
