Learn Coding with Minecraft - Mortlake (CANCELLED)

Thursday 11 April 2024
Harness your child's love of gaming and turn it into a career-building skill by learning coding, chemistry, creativity and mathematics in Minecraft Education! Learn skills, building projects, publish your games and play them with friends! Students are required to bring their own laptop (Windows or Mac), power cord and mouse. Please note iPads/tablets are supported for this course however please note that your laptop or tablet device must have a standard USB port or relevant adaptor. Please note; if you are not proficient with using a laptop trackpad, you will still need to bring your own MOUSE. If you would like to save work to take home, please also bring along a USB. Minecraft Education provides minimum recommended system requirements for Windows and Mac devices. It is highly recommended that students’ device specifications are well above these requirements, as older slower devices can struggle with processing speed. This Youth Mental Health First Aid course aims to assist adolescents who are developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Course participants learn about adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems in young people, where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation. * Gain an understanding of the latest research in the mental health field * Learn the 3 key actions for helping someone feeling suicidal * Work through complex mental health first aid interactions * Practice mental health first aid skills. * This course is specifically tailored for 18–25-year-olds This course will require participants to attend both full day sessions 9am -5pm. Pool Lifeguard Accreditation - MORTLAKE

This FREE Pool Lifeguard Accreditation course will equip candidates with the skills and knowledge required to supervise swimming pool users. The course focus includes pool surveillance, scanning techniques, rescue skills, oxygen resuscitation and emergency care and is facilitated by Life Saving Victoria. This course is FULLY subsidised and open to young people aged 16-25 years by FUSE South West through the VicHealth Big Connect funding. The training will be held at the Mortlake College P-12 and the Mortlake Swimming Pool to make the opportunity more accessible to our local youth. eLearning is required for this blended course and must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face component. If you are new to coffee or are considering becoming a barista, this is the course for you! We believe in building a solid foundation first. This course focuses on understanding espresso theory, executing the correct technique and learning how to steam and pour a beautiful milk beverage. You will leave this session with the correct framework to begin your career as a barista or in the hospitality industry. This FREE First Aid course delivered by Life Saving Victoria, will equip participants with the skills and knowledge to manage life threatening emergencies until professional medical help arrives. The course focus includes CPR, shock, bleeding, crush injuries, burns, fractures, sprains and strains, breathing and heart conditions, diabetes, seizures etc. This course was formerly known as Level 2 First Aid. This course is FULLY subsidized and open to young people aged 14-25 years by FUSE South West through the VicHealth Big Connect funding. The training will be held at the Mortlake College P-12 to make the opportunity more accessible to our local youth. eLearning is required for this blended course and must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face component.
