The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) is Australia's Centre of Excellence in contemporary circus arts training, offering Australia's only Bachelor of Circus Arts. Recreational classes for all ages, body types, skill and fitness levels are also offered through NICA Short Courses, ranging from general circus to specific skills. Recreational classes are taught by experienced trainers and industry professionals in Australia’s best custom-built circus training facilities.

The Summit is a global event that invites delegates to converge into NICA’s purpose-built circus venue for a two-day melting pot of conversations that will challenge and inspire current industry views revolving around the theme of The Moving State of Circus.
It is an intimate event with a capacity of 200, and will bring independent artists, producers, festival programmers, venue presenters, and the NICA community together in one room to dissolve industry barriers and facilitate networking. Scheduled to run is an inspiring program of panel discussions, presentations, and Q&A sessions with keynote speakers.

ONEIRIC is a void that offers no distinction between reality, and the ephemeral. Existence is monochrome.
Circus, sound, and contemporary dance dissolve the barriers of black and white, beyond which exists endless potential. Shards of colour begin to pierce the subconscious, introducing joy, contrast, light and dark, similarities, and all our differences.

A ridiculous, eclectic, absurd vaudeville face-off ensues. With an extraordinary range of circus and performance skills the battle rages.

This new book co-authored by Jon Burtt with Katie Lavers and Louis Patrick Leroux combines new critical performance theory alongside insights into contemporary creative practice in the circus arts gathered from conversations with 24 circus creators from 10 different countries.

In preparation for Short Courses ‘Short Shorts’, we have opened two training sessions where participants from NICA’s tissu and aerial hoop classes can join us in the holiday period for some additional rehearsal time.
These 2 hour sessions will include a trainer led half hour warm up and stretch and then supervised rehearsal time for the participants.
Bookings in advance are essential (sorry, no drop-ins). Price: $30 per session

The workshop is aimed at students planning to audition this year for entry into the Certificate or Bachelor in 2020. It is also open to prospective students for 2021, who would like feedback on how they should be training over the next year and half.

With a cast of 15, the show explores the notions of cultural identity – from the initial evolution of a collective species into diverse tribes, to the modern, globalised world where cultural identity can be more obscure.
Second year students flip, soar, skip and contort in a spectacular physical display.
