Session 7: Health impacts of heat - Dr Kristen Pearson

Sunday 17 March 2024
Health impacts of heat and other frequent, extreme weather events in a destabilising climate. Extreme heat kills more Australians than any other climate disaster. Global heating and climate change are causing heat waves to be hotter, to happen more often and to last longer. This session will discuss the health effects of heat and air pollution in a changing climate. Find out how heat affects the human body, who is most vulnerable and what you can do to reduce risk. Session 7 Presenter: Dr Kristen Pearson from Doctors for the Environment Australia. Kristen is a physician and has been an active volunteer with Doctors for the Environment Australia for 15 years.

Session 6: Healing land and sea - Jane Morton, Elly Hanrahan

Saturday 16 March 2024
Restoring ecosystems on land & sea: the role that this could play in averting climate collapse. As we face increasing risk of runaway warming, emissions reductions alone won't save us. We must begin large-scale drawdown and prioritise repairing damaged ecosystems. Hear how measures to restore the land & oceans can draw down vast quantities of greenhouse gases. Restoring waterways & wetlands can re-hydrate & cool the land, increase vegetation & soil carbon, & calm the atmospheric rivers. Restoring ocean ecosystems can replenish fish & whale populations & draw down & sequester greenhouse gases. Session 6 Presenters: - Jane Morton is a Clinical psychologist, climate activist, and co-convenor of Darebin Climate Action Now. - Elly Hanrahan is a forest fire fighter and project officer for the Vic Dept Energy Environment & Climate Action. David Maher, previously listed as co-presenting this session, is no longer available. Apologies for any inconvenienc
