This advanced level of training is required for all NQ Wildlife Care Macropod carers. It is recommended that carers refresh their training each year.
Tracey, Bree, Toni or Janine will be your presenters. In this training, you will learn more about the reasons Macropods fall ill and what to do when they do.
This training is only available to NQ Wildlife Care Members. Membership is available on our website.

NQWC would like to invite you to attend our Trivia Night which endeavours to raise funds to support us to continue to rescue, rehabilitate and release native Australian animals.
The trivia night will be held in the back garden area of Grill'd 3 Palmer St and will start at 6pm on Friday the 22nd August, 2025.
We would love for you all to join us in what is set to be a fun, entertaining and educational night!! Each ticket holder will receive a burger and snack sized fries of their choice at Grill'd.
Attendees will be seated in tables of 6. If you would like to be seated with your certain people to form a team then please book a full table of 6 or indicate your seating preference afterwards by emailing socialmedia@nqwildlife.org.au.

Did you know that NQ Wildlife Care receives dozens of rescue calls every single day? This training covers how to answer our 24-hour rescue phone, including giving members of the public advice on the animals they call in, taking informative details from these calls, and relaying that on to rescuers and carers.
Assisting us with phone calls may be an option if you are unable to do rescues or care.
If this sounds like your forte, come attend our session!
Anyone under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult. This training is not suitable for children under the age of 12, as some graphic imagery related to injured wildlife may be shown.

Bird Care - Practical Skills

MEMBERS WITH BIRD CARE EXPERIENCE**
This course is open to experienced bird carers and those who have recently attended the Introduction to Bird Caring. It will be presented by Shannen Koppen, a vet nurse with experience working with a range of native fauna.
The training will help participants develop practical skills in top to toe assessment, identification and triage, stabilising, rehydration, nutrition and feeding methods including crop feeding, as well as rehab husbandry for different species. These skills will make all participants better bird carers!

Bird Care Training. Become a bird carer and gain the skills to care for injured and baby birds at home. This course is being presented by NQ Wildlife Bird Group coordinators and will cover basic care, feeding and handling of our native birds.
The cost is $10.00 for members and $15 for non members. The course is open to everyone, however note that this event is not suitable for children under 12 years of age as some images of injured animals are seen. All children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

This training covers how to answer our 24-hour rescue phone, including giving members of the public advice on the animals they call in, taking informative details from these calls, and relaying them on to rescuers and carers. If this sounds like your forte, come attend our session!

Anyone under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult. This training is not suitable for children under the age of 12, as some graphic imagery related to injured wildlife may be shown.

Rescuing our wildlife varies from picking up wildlife that are already contained and dropping them to the vets to forming a team to safely capture a distressed animal, and containing them yourself. This course will give you the techniques and knowledge needed to access the situation , capture, contain and transport our native wildlife.

. Handling, feeding and what enclosures are needed, How to keep the Echidnas cool and happy. Echidnas are beautiful little creatures and normally come into care after encounters with cars, or a baby puggle being found without its mother being around.

Flying Fox Rescue and First Aid Training
Flying foxes can get themselves in a lot of trouble: entanglement in barbed wire, fishing hooks and fruit netting, electrocution on power lines, dog attacks, collisions with cars, not to mention babies that fall off their mums. This course will help carers learn how to safely rescue flying foxes in trouble and what equipment is needed. You will also learn how to assess and administer first aid for our beautiful winged friends. Warning: this course is not for the faint hearted!

This course will provide you with information about how to achieve this
You will gain an understanding and introduction to the types of native animals we care for here in Townsville and the surrounding area.
Learn about the skills needed to care for our local wildlife.
Birds, Macropods, Flying Foxes , Microbats, Possums, Small Mammals, Reptiles
This course is presented by our NQ Wildlife Care species coordinators and is designed to give you an introduction to wildlife care and what you can do to help our wildlife.
