'Ochre Woman' exhibition by artist Heidi Lee Warta

“Ochre Women” An exhibition of 10 First Nations women, living or culturally associated with Gai-mariagal Country, Northern Beaches. Through the use of pastel and ochre, portrait drawings are applied to large eco-dye fabrics. The exhibition will feature talks and workshops from some of the women in focus sharing their story with the wider community. This event is fully endorsed by the Gunyadu First Nations Women’s Aboriginal Corporation and the Gaimaragal Group. 1st to 10th July 2022

Several women who feature in the 'Ochre Woman' exhibition will be talking about what healing country means to them during NAIDOC week with last years theme being 'Heal Country'.

Weaving with Aunty Karleen Green

8th of July 2022 2pm to 4pm
Aunty Karleen is one of NSW most well respected weavers, having over twenty five year history of delivering weaving workshops. Aunty Karleen is passionate about using recyclable products weaving using traditional Aboriginal stitch. Ten participants and invited to learn some basic weaving stitches with Aunty Karleen Green who is one of the woman in focus during the 'Ochre Women' exhibition.

Heal Country with Lana Kelly

5th July at 10am to 11am
Lana Kelly will be talking about what Healing Country means to her during this years NAIDOC week themed 'Heal Country'. Lana is a descendant of the Gumbaynggirr tribe growing up in Bowraville NSW, and now lives on Gaimaragal homelands, Northern beaches of Sydney.

Heal Country with Cara Cross

4th July 2022 at 10am to 11am
During this yarning session, Cara Cross will communicate last years NAIDOC theme on what 'Healing Country' means to her. Cara is a Worimi Biripi woman and has lived on Gai-Margail land for most of her life. Cara is an Aboriginal historian and researcher and authored "Our Country, Our Healer: Aboriginal Apothecaries of Burning Mountain" which is to be published by the Australian National University's Aboriginal History Journal.

Weaving with Sheriden Bird

2nd July 2022 at 2 to 4pm
Ten participants and invited to learn some basic weaving stitches with the fabulous Sheriden Bird who is one of the woman in focus during the 'Ochre Women' exhibition. Sheriden was born on the banks of the Nepean River and is a descendant of the Wiradjuri people, Mudgee, Cudgegong River. Sheriden now lives on Gai-Marigal Country and has bought up her family here for the past 40years. Sheriden's extensive background in avant-garde fashion design gives her a distinct individual flair.
