Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre

The Phillip Island Community Adult Learning Centre (PICAL) is a not for profit community-based organisation providing a space to meet, socialise, learn, create and access information about local services. PICAL provides services such as emergency food relief, counselling, free hearing tests, employment services and a Centrelink Agency. We also have a number of community spaces available for hire for meetings, training, social gatherings and community groups

    This 7 week course is designed to show you basic computer skills, email and the internet. Each week, you will be guided through a new process and an opportunity for one-on-one tuition in order to build confidence and skills. This course is perfect for adults with little or no previous computer experience.     Everyone has a story to tell. This course is designed for men to be able to explore their own histories and to tell stories that represent their experiences in the world. Learn how to write monologues then use performance and oral storytelling to record and capture these stories.     Explore the key elements that are required to write a short script for theatre including dialogue, scenes, structure, stage directions, characters and plot. Each week will be focused on a different element of scriptwriting with the overall goal to create a short script that explores all that you have learned.     Renovation of the PICAL Community Caravan continues this term as we apply practical construction skills to complete this important community project.     Working with pallets is a fun way to build something that looks great without having to get everything perfect. Build your confidence with power tools & develop basic handy skills under the guidance of an experienced qualified tutor. No previous skills required, students will get to take home their own planter box, coffee table, chair or something of their own creation. Materials supplied.     Topics include: Microsoft Office, Zoom, internet browsers & search engines, what is a digital footprint & online safety plus some social media basics. The first 3 sessions are delivered face-to-face to consolidate your basic computer skills, the next 3 sessions are conducted online via Zoom so participants can experience & become confident communicating & learning in an online classroom.     Provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies and to perform CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines. CPR at floor level on an adult manikin is a mandatory requirement. Statement of Attainment will be issued by National First Aid RTO 398. Also suitable for anyone who has a current CPR certificate needing to do an annual update of skills & knowledge. Date: Sat 31 Jul | Time: 9am - 11:30am

    Gain the skills & knowledge required to provide first aid response to infants, children & adults. Applies to educators & support staff working within an education & care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including CPR, asthmatic & anaphylactic emergencies.     Learn the skills & knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident & other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. Applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations including community & workplace settings. Includes CPR component. E-learning is required PRIOR to class attendance, a link to online learning is provided with booking confirmation.

    A combination of meditation & pottery. Every class begins with a short guided meditation that flows into designing & making a ceramic creation. Learn some basic pottery skills such as coiling, slab building & pinch pot making whilst mindfully focusing on the process. All materials supplied including one take-home piece.     Learn the process of creating leadlight pieces from pattern and glass selection to glass cutting, breaking, shaping, soldering and finishing.
