Quixotica Art Space

Quixotica is a unique creative space in Cooroy, Queensland, owned by long standing ceramic artist and educator, Rowley Drysdale. It is where Rowley creates all his work and holds regular ceramic workshops. The property features a number of anagama and gas fired kilns, several studios, artists’ accommodation, extensive gardens and a waterside gallery. It regularly hosts visiting international and interstate artists, who conduct a variety of visual arts workshops.

Wood firing - Participatory kiln share

Friday 13 March 2020
Ceramic artists are invited to bring up to 6 bisqued stoneware pieces of medium size for firing in the wood kiln. Pieces will be evenly distributed throughout the kiln. Artists will then be involved in loading (March 11-12) and firing the kiln (March 13/14/15), at agreed times, learning about the wood firing process throughout. The artists return to collect their work at the kiln opening on the following Saturday afternoon (March 21).

BEYOND THE ROUND - altering wheel thrown forms

This workshop expands traditional wheel throwing techniques and develops new shapes through the altering and manipulation of thrown forms. Whether functional or sculptural, altering your wheel thrown work adds a different dimension to your ceramic forms. Other techniques such as paddling, faceting and soft clay manipulation of bowls, vases and cups will also be covered.

Wood firing - Non participatory kiln share

Wednesday 20 November 2019
Ceramic artists are invited to bring up to 6 bisqued stoneware pieces of medium size for firing in the wood kiln. Pieces will be evenly distributed throughout the kiln. The artists glaze their work at Quixotica’s studio, at a mutually agreed time on or before Wednesday November 20, with glaze supplied. The work will then be loaded and fired in the wood kiln by the team at Quixotica. The artists return to collect their work at the kiln opening on the afternoon of Saturday November 30th.

Wood firing - Participatory kiln share

Wednesday 20 November 2019
Ceramic artists are invited to bring up to 6 bisqued stoneware pieces of medium size for firing in the wood kiln. Pieces will be evenly distributed throughout the kiln. Artists will then be involved in loading (Nov 20/21) and firing the kiln (Nov 22/23/24), at agreed times, learning about the wood firing process throughout. The artists return to collect their work at the kiln opening on the following Saturday afternoon (Nov 30).
