Marine Radio (Short Range Operator Certificate)

Between Saturday 22 August 2026 and Saturday 21 November 2026
The Short-Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP) course conducted by qualified instructors from the South Australian Sea Rescue Squadron will provide a thorough understanding of maritime radio communication at sea. This is an internationally recognised qualification following the syllabus developed by the Australian Maritime College on behalf of the Australian Communication and Media Authority. Successful completion will result in the issue of a certificate of proficiency. This certificate is a prerequisite to gain a Coxswain or Master V certificate. The course provides training on the use of VHF radio communication equipment for recreational and commercial boating. The participants will learn the use of onboard VHF marine radios, Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), Search and Rescue Transponder (SART), Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Digital Selective Calling (DSC) enabled radios, for effective use in maritime communications. The course covers both the theory and practice of radio operations. The courses are offered four times a year. Course fees include the Marine VHF Radio Operators Handbook and the assessment. 2026 SA Sea Rescue Squadron Annual Dinner

The 2026 Annual Dinner of the South Australian Sea Rescue Squadron will be held in the Barcoo hall at Squadron Headquarters (7 Barcoo Rd, West Beach, SA, 5024). Members, partners and sponsors tickets are complimentary and all booking will be validated with your operational, financial or approved status, please ensure you meet this criteria. If either you do not meet this criteria or you make a booking and fail to attend without notification prior, there will be a fee payable of $100 per person. 2026 Seamanship Course

Between Thursday 25 June 2026 and Thursday 8 October 2026
Our small boat handling course provides you with the practical skills and confidence to skipper a small vessel. Course is eight Thursday evenings and one day practical on the water with our vessel. Date of the relevant weekend for practical will be provided at the first workshop. Satisfactory completion of this course meets the requirements for the issue of a South Australian recreational power boat license from Service SA (fee applicable). Different requirements apply for 12-15 year olds who can obtain a special operators permit. This includes a practial test which must be completed with a Marine Safety Officer. SAR Navigation Training

Saturday 28 March 2026
SAR Navigation Training provides an understanding of Search and Rescue in the maritime environment. You will learn about SAR authorities, search patterns, planning and conduct of searches, and coordination between the navigator and skipper. Basic navigation will also be covered with an introduction to charts, chartwork and position fixing. This is an all-day event. Please bring your lunch and snacks.
