UK-based Aussie slide guitar maestro Gwyn Ashton comes slamming back to the Club for a trio show with bassist Brenton Firth and drum master Mark Meyer to promote his latest full band album Grease Bucket, and maybe a bit of his solo album Mojosoul. He's also released a rock single titled "Get Outta Town", collaborating with guest guitarist Richard Fortus from Guns N Roses so that may get a run as well. The former lead guitarist for Stevie Wright, Swanee and Band of Friends (Rory Gallagher's band) Ashton has previously recorded with members of Icehouse, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Robert Plant's and Gallagher's bands and many more. Adding to his CV Gwyn has toured with the likes of Status Quo, The Yardbirds, Johnny Winter, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Slade, The Sweet and performed festivals with BB King, Rory Gallagher, Buddy Guy and countless other big names in rock and blues. Back in early May we had the Beinke Brothers Band playthe Red Stage - with the bonus of Geoff Achison. Well they are back! Geoff is an internationally renowned guitarist/singer/songwriter who first came to prominence playing incendiary lead guitar with Aussie blues legend ‘Dutch’ Tilders, before striking out on his own with his all-star group ‘The Souldiggers’. He then established himself as a formidable solo act on acoustic guitar. Recently, in 2023, Geoff joined 70’s hitmakers ‘STARS’ on lead guitar, contributing a tasty solo on their single ‘One More Try’, and featuring on the ‘live’ album ‘Paradise. It’s a big CV. ONE MORE MILE is back! Travis Taylor: vocals, rhythm guitar, harmonica, Nick Kipridis: vocals, lead guitar, Michael Winter: bass guitar, Chris Soole: saxophone, Mario Marino: drums. They return to The Semaphore Worker's Club to launch their latest CD - 6 years after recording in California with blues legends, Al Blake (vocals, harmonica) and Fred Kaplan (piano, organ) of The Hollywood Fats Band. Fred also produced the sessions which resulted in two CDs. The first volume is to be released February 2025 being launched at the Semaphore Workers Club. This is a work of passion and perseverance. After recording, the pandemic saw the music industry worldwide completely shut down for 2 years, this was followed by a litany of problems: stolen masters, divorce, death, deafness, blindness, tinnitus touched all involved. Finally, 6 years later, 23rd February 2025 will see ONE MORE MILE with Al Blake and Fred Kaplan release Volume 1 : THE HOLLYWOOD CONNECTION.

The Elder Conservatorium Big Band is an Adelaide icon . Formed by the original Head of Jazz, Hal Hall in the late 1970’s the band is a training ground for future stars, showcasing a broad range of material styling Basie and Ellington to contemporary music from Schneider, Mossman and Ferguson it is a sensational listening experience. Currently under the direction of Dusty Cox the band has received DownBeat magazines Outstanding College Performance award - the first & only Australian University big band to achieve this accolade, and worked with jazz giants, including Bob Mintzer, Lee Konitz, Wycliffe Gordon, Errol Buddle, Don Burrows, Michelle Nicolle, Ray Vega, Lauren Henderson, Mark Ferguson, James Muller and Julian Ferraretto. It has appeared at many Jazz festivals and also toured extensively. With such a great base many alumni have gone on to very successful international performance careers and as composer/arrangers. John ‘Swanee’ Swan & Alan Barnes

John ‘Swanee’ Swan OAM is a staple of Australia’s music scene. Born in Glasgow in 1952, he grew up on blues and soul music challenging himself to match the majesty of these singers' tones. By the early 80s, he had established himself as a well-known solo artist moving into the world of pop music recording songs like ‘Lady What's Your Name’, ‘Temporary Heartache’ and his rendition of ‘If I Were a Carpenter'. In 1987 he became front man of rock n roll supergroup the Party Boys with great success including ‘Hold your Head Up’ and a number one hit with ‘He’s Gonna Step on You Again’. His passion for, blues, jazz, rock, and soul has inspired him to form Vince & The Insomniacs playing 75% original compositions with 25% of great old standards (Willie Dixon, Howlin’, Wolf and Ray Charles) interpreted in their own style. On drums is Mick Garcia a blues master drummer Mick brings fire, weight and dignity to every gig and has shared the stage with many modern blues greats. But the past four years have proved to be anything but “normal circumstances”. During an extended break enforced by a worldwide plague that brought the entire music and arts industries to a standstill, along with lives and careers in general, the population at large also took pause to consider its future. In the first half of the 1900’s, African Americans from the Mississippi Delta and surrounding regions, moved north in search of a better life… many settled in Chicago Illinois, bringing their rich culture and music that originated in the deep south with them. By the late 1940’s, electric instruments and amplification were creating a new sound, a new form of music that still captured the essence of the earlier Delta Blues, becoming what we now know as “Chicago Blues”. One man has been given the recognition as being “ The Father of Chicago Blues”… McKinley Morganfield (Muddy Waters) April 4 1913-April 30 1983. The tough, harmonica driven Blues Band format that set the standard for the future of the Blues to come…. The Windy City Daddies pay tribute to this music and the artists who created it, taking the listener back 70 years, with their passion for the music and authenticity. The extremely affable Scott is making a trip to Adelaide to test the South Australian gig scene. US-born Oscar LaDell is a 2nd generation blues singer and guitarist who brings an intensity and depth to his shows that bely his 24 years of age. Mick Garcia has shared the stage with many modern blues greats. A blues master drummer Mick brings fire, weight and dignity to every gig. The quartet is rounded out by the Jesse Deane Freeman who is excellent on piano; and Jason Mannix on Bass. This band brings a show packed with classic blues numbers out of New Orleans, Memphis, Chicago, Texas and also features many of Oscar’s fine originals, including the Independent Blues Radio Top 50 charting ‘Slow Burning Love.’

Chris turned 70 at the end of December 2022 an has had two events celebrating this milestone so far. Early in December saw the southern music community gather at The Groove Garden which saw a stack of artists music lovers joined Chris on the day to preemptively welcome his 70 year anniversary. In January the Adelaide Roots & Blues Association asked Chris to put together a bespoke band so ARBA could pay respect to the bloke who has supported live music in Adelaide for over 40 years.
