We are excited to welcome Violinist Matthew Tsalidis to the front of the stage where he will perform Violin Concerto in A minor & Violin Concerto in E major. SEVEN LAST WORDS

Friday 2 April 2021
A reflective work befitting in character to the solemnity of the events it depicts, Haydn's Seven Last Words of Christ portrays the final statements of Jesus Christ at the crucifixion. This work will be performed in its one-hour entirety, for string ensemble, with brief reflective readings between each of the seven movements.

MODERN CLASSICS: Prokofiev & Stravinsky (CANCELLED)

Paying homage to the Classical and Roccoco traditions, 20th-century Russian composers Sergei Prokofiev and Igor Stravinsky each composed several works that reinterpret the musical language of Mozart and others in a more modern idiom. Opening the program is Prokofiev's buoyant Symphony No.1 in D major, nicknamed the 'Classical', followed by the colourful suite from Stravinsky's ballet, Pulcinella. Renowned double bassist Elsen Price will feature as soloist in an early classical bass concerto.

Hosted by St Mark's Anglican Church South Hurstville, the St George Chamber Orchestra partner with Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Sydney to present a gala performance of the greatest of the Gilbert & Sullivan operas, from arias from the Mikado and HMS Pinafore to choruses from The Pirates of Penzance and Princes Ida.
