Wizard of Oz

Between Thursday 11 July 2024 and Saturday 13 July 2024
‘The Wizard Of Oz’ is a much-loved story, perhaps best known through the 1939 film with Judy Garland. This new musical adaptation returns to the book by L. Frank Baum for its inspiration, but – as those who have read the book will know – there are far too many different episodes and adventures to include neatly into a short musical. As such, the essence of the story, its great heart, its wonderful sense of adventure, its innocence and its magic are very much the driving force in this new version. Cyclones, munchkins, witches and wizards, a yellow brick road and an emerald city: welcome to Oz, where anything can happen and a huge amount does, most of it involving a little girl called Dorothy, her dear dog Toto, her three unforgettable companions – the scarecrow, the tin woodman and the lion – and one very wicked witch.

The answer, with the lead character dressing up in drag, descended into complete farce and unleashed a very complicated and funny chain of events. Cosi

Between Wednesday 23 August 2023 and Saturday 2 September 2023
This vibrant play is set inside a psychiatric institution in 1971. Lewis, a young director, takes on the task of mounting a production of Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte in the burnt-out theatre. He becomes emotionally involved with his patients-cum-actors as his operatic production lurches forward and anti-Vietnam protests rage outside. First produced in 1992, COSI has become one of the most successful Australian plays produced in the last two decades. A terrific play about madness, illusion, sanity and theatre. Please Note: This production contains coarse language and adult themes. It is intended for a MATURE AUDIENCE, aged over 15 years.

Only An Orphan Girl

Between Wednesday 12 April 2023 and Saturday 22 April 2023
The Orphan Girl is a long-suffering young lady who seems destined not only to lose her lover but her life as well. The familiar characters of old-time melodrama here play their roles up to the hilt. The most thrilling scene is that in which dynamite (planted by the villain) is about to blow all the good characters to eternity. Just in time, however, Lucy picks up the dynamite and throws it out the door. On reflection, though, it seems that the thrill just described is actually topped by the even more exciting scene in the sawmill, where Nellie, tied to a log, is approaching the circular saw which in a moment will tear her to pieces. The hero, who has been tied by the villain, is freed just in time to thrust aside the latter who draws a pistol on him and threatens to kill him if he dares touch the lever that will save Nellie. The villain fires. The hero is wounded. And, at this very instant, a friend opportunely appears to snare the villain, and Nellie is safe in the arms of her hero.
