Come along to an outdoor screening of this community-led play celebrating 100 years of Hurstbridge. Co-written by David Kerrigan and Keira de Hoog, The Bridge is inspired by true events. It recounts Henry Hurst’s fateful encounter with bushranger Robert Burke, an episode that helped shape Allwood House and the township of Hurstbridge. The story also explores the bridges that connect people within communities around the world. Winter Wattle Walk

Join us for a beautiful winter walk on the Diamond Creek Trail. We will meet at Watsonia train station and take the train to Wattle Glen train station. From there we will walk the scenic walking trail to Hurstbridge with the wattles in bloom. It is approximately 4 km long. The walk will finish at Hurstbridge. Participants are welcome to explore the the quaint village of Hurstbridge with its interesting shops, delicious eateries and rich history and natural beauty. Alternatively, you can take the train back to Watsonia. The trail is mostly flat with one incline and rough underfoot between the station and the start of the path. Medium level of fitness will be required. Please carry a water bottle, snack if you need and dress for the weather. There are plenty of places to purchase lunch if you need in Hurstbridge.

Come join Jo to learn how to build and use a garden compost. Jo will demonstrate how to build and monitor its health. Come join Ravi to make and take home your own insect hotel. The insect hotel will be a log with holes drilled in for critters and a plate on top. The plate will protect the log and can be a bee drinking station or bird feeder. Learn safe drilling into wood and ceramic, screwing and will use almost all recycled materials. Winter Wattle Walk

Join us for a beautiful winter walk on the Diamond Creek Trail. We will meet at Watsonia train station and take the train to Wattle Glen train station. From there we will walk the scenic walking trail to Hurstbridge with the wattles in bloom. It is approximately 4 km long. The walk will finish at Hurstbridge. Participants are welcome to explore the the quaint village of Hurstbridge with its interesting shops, delicious eateries and rich history and natural beauty. Alternatively, you can take the train back to Watsonia. The trail is mostly flat with one incline and rough underfoot between the station and the start of the path. Medium level of fitness will be required. Please carry a water bottle, snack if you need and dress for the weather. There are plenty of places to purchase lunch if you need in Hurstbridge.

Marg will demonstrate, discuss and involve participants in preserving fruit and tomatoes using the Fowlers method. She will cover the Fowlers preserving process, equipment required, preserving liquids and acids, preparation of fruit, preparing bottles and filling with fruit and syrup/water, sealing bottles and placing in the preserving unit, filling preserver with water, processing bottles and temperature control, removing bottles and checking clips, checking vacuum seal and bottle storage. Buna Reserve Community Garden: Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop

Come on over to Buna Reserve Community Garden’s orchard and learn the basics of fruit tree pruning. Buna’s very own orchardist Yuki Cameron will take us through the ins and outs of pruning young and mature fruit trees so we can maintain, shape, minimise disease and maximise fruit production on our deciduous fruit trees. Yuki will take us through a demonstration on some of the trees in the orchard, and with her guidance participants will have the opportunity to have a go as well.
