Come and learn from Jan Lucas the ancient art of ‘fire writing’ with Carlisle Wood Women. Pyrography, also known as pokerwork and wood burning is an art form using hot wire and solid nibs to draw on timber. Whether you want to use it as a medium to create stand alone artworks or embellish wooden items, this course will introduce you to the basics.

Join us for a journey into pre-industrial woodcraft. For centuries, spoons were carved from green wood fresh off the tree. Learn to use axes, sloyd knives, hook knives and other traditional techniques to craft your spoon like your ancestors did.
You won't get your spoon totally completed in this workshop, but you will have made a great start. Most likely all you will need will be a whittling knife in order to complete your spoon.

Ever wonder how a straight piece of wood gets bent into a cool shape? This workshop will introduces the process of steam bending wood. Learn methods to prepare the wood and use steam to bend a simple curve to create a curved kitchen spatula.
*Please note. We will use a couple of different techniques. With one technique, your spatula may need to remain cramped to it's former for a couple of days to dry in shape and will need to removed and completed at home. The other version may be able to be completed at the workshop on the night.

In this workshop you will learn to weild a hammer effectively for big and for tiny tasks, you'll learn to understand more about nails, and feel you confidence grow as you feel the subtle use of the power in your hands.

As long as humanity has existed, wood has been used as a medium for artistic expression. Relief Carving is a traditional method of carving the surface of wood to create patterns, inscribe text, and create beautiful images.
We'll use a variety of traditional wood carving tools as we learn a few techniques, then we will apply these techniques as we create our carved designs in some nice wood!
