ROTARY - SPECIAL EVENT - Sparrowvale Wetlands Project Tour

Saturday 17 June 2023
Be one of the first to visit this exciting CoGG project.  This natural and constructed wetlands occupy around 200 hectares with all areas subject to flooding at times from the Barwon River. Sparrowvale is a part of the Barwon River floodplain and supports a diverse range of salt marsh, sub-saline marsh and freshwater wetland vegetation.  Complementary morning tea, please BYO own coffee cup. Please note: moderate fitness required as this will be a walking tour. Self-drive or complimentary bus from Geelong CBD Cost is $5.00 per person. Limited places – only 15 people can be catered for. This activity is open to Rotarians and non-Rotarians alike.

Gordon R. McInally calls for members to capture the world's attention and lead the way toward possibilities far beyond our current expectations. McInally, a member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, West Lothian, Scotland, revealed the 2023-24 presidential theme, Create Hope in the World, during the Rotary International Assembly in Orlando, Florida, USA. Hear his superb keynote address as he urges members to promote peace in troubled nations, help those affected by conflict, and maintain the momentum of initiatives begun by past leaders. One not to be missed, and one to inspire and challenge all of us to create  hope.

The highlight will be a reprise of the famous interview between Paul Harris and Leland Childs in 1945, by PP Peter Gillham and President Gary Newton which will be part humorous and part serious. This is a partners' night and not to be missed.

With food waste making up a third of the average household landfill bin, CoGG  plans to be processing all organic household waste from 2025-26.  The Anakie site uses in-vessel HotRot machines.  This is a great opportunity to see how this site operates and maybe take home a few tips as well. ROTARY - **SPECIAL EVENT** - Build Your Own Bee Hotel!

Bee Hotels have become an important part of providing garden bees with security from predators. Given the importance of bees to our fruit, vegetables and flowers, it is important that we provide them with as much support as possible. Bees have many human induced problems to contend with, so this is an opportunity for us to support them. A ‘Build & Take’ workshop, is to be conducted on Saturday 18th March at Barwon Timber. Materials supplied and you get to take home your Bee Hotel. Cost is $5.00 per person. Children under 15 will not be allowed to make the hotel without parental guidance. Limited places – only 15 people can be catered for. This activity is open to Rotarians and non-Rotarians alike.
