Wollondilly's Cemeteries: Connecting us to our past.

Nicole Winram, Wollondilly Shire Council's Cemetery Operations Officer, will walk us through the history of some of Wollondilly's Council-operated cemeteries, give insight into how records have been kept over time, and speak to some of the complex issues that arise when keeping records and memorialising those who are no longer able speak for themselves.

Sensory Storytime

Between Friday 3 May 2024 and Friday 6 December 2024
Sensory Storytime is a program for children with sensory or additional needs, their siblings and parent or carer. It engages children through movement, music, stories and sensory activities and provides an oppportunity to socialise. Children who are overwhelmed by larger groups but would still like to attend a Storytime session are also welcome to join us. Content is designed for ages 2-5, but children of all ages are welcome to attend. Bookings are essential as numbers are strictly limited. Occurs 1st Friday of every month during School Terms. Bookings open 8am Friday, two weeks before each session.

Candle Making

Tuesday 23 April 2024
Layer coloured wax beads and decorate with with stickers to create your own personalised candles in our Candle Workshop presented by Wick'd Candles. Keep your candles for yourself, or give to someone special as a gift! For children aged 5-12 years old. This activity does not involve any heating of hot wax and is very safe for children. The wax beads are used to create the candle and upon lighting they melt down just like an everyday candle! These candles are not fragranced. Then you’re in luck because WestWords and WestLit Libraries are offering free 90-minute creative writing workshops at Wollondilly Library as part of the 2024 Living Stories Western Sydney Writing Prize. These workshops are intended to help writers gain confidence and skills in their creative writing, especially with a large writing prize just around the corner. Youth Week Art Workshop

Exercise your creativity in this 2 hour collage workshop led by local multi-disciplinary artist Freya Jobbins. Your collages will feature hybrid creatures created from the combining of humans and the animal world. Both comical and uncanny, your works will stretch the imagination while also including local landscapes of the Wollondilly. Collaborate with Freya on a large group piece to be displayed in the Library, and create your own collage to take home. All materials and tools will be supplied, however please feel free to contribute any old books illustrated with animals or birds to be re-purposed for the artwork. Writing Your Memoir Workshop

Writing memoirs can lead to emotionally difficult territory. How much of what you write will be the truth? And how do you select what to write about? In this 2-hour workshop, wordsmith Keith Whelan will help you choose a subject, plan, focus and begin a memoir. Through memory and writing exercises, one-on-one sharing and feedback, you'll get to draft the first section of your memoir. You'll explore the differences between autobiography and memoir, address the idea of self-disclosure, and discuss the tension between emotional and factual truth. Participants will receive a copy of the facilitator’s workshop presentation as a toolkit to help them with their writing after the conclusion of the workshop.

Join us for a presentation by Senior Solicitor, Stephen Karanfilovski to learn more about how you can plan and act now to make this easier in the future. The presentation will cover: • Wills: what they are, why they are required and the benefits of having a Will, who is and what the role of an executor entails, what constitutes a legal Will, etc. • Enduring Power of Attorneys (EOPA): The function of the EPOA; what an EPOA covers, the role of the Attorney, when the EPOA can begin. • Enduring Guardianships: The function of the EG, what an EG covers, the role of the nominated Guardian, when can the EG begins. Do you have a story to tell? Do you love writing? Do you feel excited when you think about putting words down, and having them really mean something? Does the idea of seeing your name at the top of a page of great writing full of terrific ideas thrill you? Would you like to be able to write better, and to learn from the best? If you answer yes to any of these questions, then you’re in luck, because WestWords and WestLit Libraries, as part of the 2023 Living Stories Western Sydney Writing Prize, are offering free 90-minute creative writing workshops in your area. These workshops are intended to help writers gain confidence and skills in their creative writing, especially with such a large-scale writing prize just around the corner. Numbers for these free workshops are very limited, so book early. Please note that in the workshops for young people, the content is customised to specific age groups. Please don’t book for a different age group without first consulting with us.

Build your child's emotional wellbeing and mental resilience through creative expression. Join us at Wollondilly Library this school holidays for these fun, interactive music therapy workshops. Each session runs for 2 hours and is broken into a variety of hands-on activities. Light refreshments will also be provided. After a difficult few years, these workshops, co-presented by River Road Creative Academy and Wildflower Holistic Therapy will help your child express their thoughts, ideas and emotions while building relationships with their peers. Separate workshops are held for two age groups - 5 to 7 year-olds and 8 to 12 year-olds. Places are strictly limited, with a maximum of 15 children per session to ensure a quality experience. Please only book a single session per child in an appropriate session for your child's age.

Book a table in our study sessions for quiet and individual study space in our upstairs View Room. There are two sessions per day: 9:45am- 1:00pm and 1:45pm- 5:00pm. Free Wifi is available. COVID-19 restrictions apply. Hygiene practices and social distancing measures must be adhered to. Please do not come to the library if you are feeling unwell.

NSW History Week in Wollondilly - Launch

The Surveyor General, Narelle Underwood, will launch a new public online database of streets in Wollondilly. Find out the history of your street, including the story behind the name and photos. She will then open the exhibition 'Memory & Landscape' at Picton Shire Hall Gallery. This exhibition brings together early subdivision documents and photos of people and places of the time to illustrate the changes in our shire over the decades.

Wollondilly In Focus Book Launch by James Whitfield

Containing over 500 predominantly coloured photographs, this book is a pictorial overview of all the towns and villages in the Wollondilly Shire as seen through the camera. James was born in Picton (1942) and moved to Tahmoor at the age of one year and have lived there ever since. Both sides of his family (Bollard & Whitfield) are early settlers in Wollondilly. Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Macarthur Women's Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service.
