In this varied program, PCQ pays tribute to the notion of arcadian England through the work of Ralph Vaughan Williams, perhaps the finest exponent of the English pastoral style. The sweeping melodies of Vaughan Williams’s String Quartet no 1 are complimented by one of the best-known works of the titan of string quartet writing, Ludwig van Beethoven. The world premiere of a PCQ commission from rising star Emma Greenhill completes the program.
