Who is Cognitive Processing Therapy effective for?
About
Many clinicians have concerns about delivering Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), such as whether it will be effective for clients with comorbidities or childhood trauma and whether clients must first stabilize with preparatory treatments. Stefanie will be presenting her review of key studies, where CPT was shown to be effective and safe across a wide range of patients.CPT was found to be effective for individuals with childhood trauma. Similarly, individuals with comorbidities benefited on PTSD outcomes, and their comorbid symptoms often improved as well (e.g., depression, suicidal ideation, substance use, personality disorder symptoms). Stephanie also found there was no evidence of benefit for delivering preparatory treatment before initiating CPT.
This presentation is suitable for those who are familiar with CPT and are seeking an update review of research, and those who are interested in learning more about first-line, evidence based treatments for trauma.
