Port Phillip - Family Cycling - 12 April 2023
This course is commissioned by the City of Port Phillip and delivered by Bike it Better, for people who live, work or study in Port Phillip.
PART 1 (10am-12pm): In a traffic free environment we will cover basic but essential bike control skills including smooth starting and stopping, using gears, scanning and signalling, and skills for riding on shared paths and quiet streets. Adults and children will learn and practice these skills in separate groups.
PART 2 (12-1pm) - optional: Adults and kids combine into a single group to complete a short group ride on shared paths and quiet streets to practice riding in a family group.
Adults will also learn about and be provided with a resource document with information about family-riding equipment options such as tandems, tag-alongs, cargo seats and baby seats; and car racks. The group will also have the opportunity to try out the Elwood Toy Library cargo bike, which is available for hire at other times.
To participate in this session, all adult participants must be able to balance and pedal to ride a bike without training wheels (even if a bit wobbly), and need to bring their own bike and a helmet. Children may be able to ride their bike independently, or with training wheels attached, or may be carried in/on a cargo bike or in a bike seat.
Please note that you may choose to only participate in the first part of the session (traffic-free skills workshop 10am-12pm), and not stay for the optional group ride (12pm-1pm) - there are separate ticket options available. Please email bikeitbettercyclecoaching@gmail.com if you are unsure.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket?
You don't need to bring your ticket on the day. We will have a list of registered participants.
*Why do you charge a deposit?
The cost of providing this session has been subsidised by the City of Port Phillip, however sometimes when events are free, participants don't cancel their tickets when they are not going to attend, which takes away a valuable opportunity for somebody else to attend. To ensure that all registered participants do attend, we take a deposit which is refunded after you attend the session. If you are registered and do not attend the session, your deposit will not be refunded.
How and when will I receive my refund?
Your refund will be processed after you have attended the session, and may take up to 7 days to be received. The refund will be processed through the TryBooking system and will be returned via the same payment method with which you purchased your ticket.
What if I can't attend the session?
If you have booked a ticket and can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can open up your spot for somebody else to attend. If you give at least 24 hours notice, a full refund of your deposit will be provided. With less than 24 hours notice, unfortunately we will not be able to return your deposit.
