History in a Coffee Cup - The Beauty of Broken Objects

About
We are all guilty of keeping that one bowl or vase that is slightly broken because we don’t have the heart to throw it away! Or maybe we just really love the design or it’s a special family heirloom! This month we are considering the differences between conserving versus restoring objects. Conservation, a hidden role in museums, focuses on preserving objects for future research and display. Restoration tunes into the love of the complete piece. To illustrate the beauty of restoration, Jaz Lawrence will demonstrate Kintsugi, the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold. This 400-year-old technique celebrates the imperfections of objects, transforming them into beautiful pieces of art.Location
