BEGINNINGS
What are beginnings? How did we begin ? How did this, all this, start ? 'Sorry, could we start again ?'
BEGINNINGS explores the way we begin our lives, careers, and journeys to find who we are as creatives, friends, human beings. The performance brings together a combination of semi-autobiographical recollections and truthful exasperations.
BEGINNINGS invites you to explore where you came from, and how you can keep holding on to that: you know ? this feeling of starting afresh, the blissful vertigo of the new page, the blank canvas, the empty stage.
To re-invent oneself and be able to begin again,
and again,
and -
BEGINNINGS was created through a devised process in which the entire cast and crew was involved. Each member was invited to respond, improvise, write, and create choreographic sequences that engaged with the notion and experience of beginnings, new starts and second chances. The process was largely based on workshopping and collective collaboration, allowing for trial and errors and playful experimentation. BEGINNINGS involves a collective thought-experiment, a shared experience, but seen through the lenses of many individual perspectives.
Trigger warning: coarse language, mention and reference of bullying, sexual assault, substance abuse, birthing and death, mental illness and physical injury, self harm and themes of religion.
