2023 Western Australian Junior Chess Championship
acF rated. Please arrive by 8:15am to facilitate the tournament organization, with the exception on Thursday for problem solving & blitz, where you need to arrive by 10am (if you registered for Problem solving) or/and 1pm (for Blitz).
Eligibility: Players can enter a division if they were under the specified age as of 1st January 2023. All entrants must be members of the Chess Association of WA Inc.
Prizes: Perpetual Trophies will be awarded to the winners of each age group, while individual trophies will be presented to participants from all age groups and genders, based on the number of entries. To be eligible for the state title, it is required to have permanent residency. If an individual does not hold permanent residency, they can still win the cash prize and trophy but will not be eligible to claim the state title. Certificates can be provided upon request. There will be cash prizes based on the number of entries (excluding Blitz tournaments).
Winners of the 1st and 2nd places in each category will receive an invitation to participate in The Mathematical Association of WA (MAWA) Problem Solving Program. This exclusive program is renowned for its prestige and is open only to students who receive an invitation from the association. Prizes will be presented after the Blitz has finished on Thursday, 13th July at 4:30pm. Kindly take note that in order to be eligible for any individual prize, players must achieve a score of 50% or greater (i.e., 3.5/7). If two or more players or teams end up with the same score, tiebreak rules will be utilized to determine the winner.
Entries close on Saturday, 8th July at 4pm. If you cannot make the first round you may request for a half-point bye for round 1 only: please notify by email: chessassociationwa@gmail.com before 4pm Saturday, 8rd July. Maximum seating 250.

Please ensure that you arrive by 8:15 am on the first day of your division to assist in the smooth organization of the tournament. However, please note that on Thursday, there are different arrival times for the Problem Solving and Blitz events. For the Problem-Solving event, please arrive by 9:30 am, and for the Blitz event, please arrive by 12:15 pm. The playoffs for the U14/16/18 age groups, if necessary, are scheduled for Thursday morning. The exact time will be communicated by the Chief Arbiter the day before. For the remaining age titles, playoffs, if needed, will occur promptly after the conclusion of the respective tournaments. Prizes will be presented after the Blitz has finished on Thursday, 13th July at 4:30pm. |
