HEKKA is a Sydney-based contemporary instrumental trio led by 2019 Freedman Jazz Fellow Novak Manojlovic (piano), alongside Jacques Emery (double bass) and Tully Ryan (drums).
Thanks to support from SIMA’s National Tour Program, Wauchope has been included in HEKKA's July tour.
With nods to New York’s downtown loft scene and London’s gritty nu-jazz wave, the trio’s collective love of jazz, electronic, classical and rock music is evident as they marry their natural intensity live on-stage with an unmistakably chilled-out vibe.
The tour will support the July release of HEKKA’s debut LP titled ‘Everywhere I Go My Body Goes With Me’ - a work described as “a multi-faceted and idiomatic record which marries driving rock aesthetics, meditative sonic landscapes and fluttering electronics”.
'HEKKA...was thrillingly distinctive. This trio's improvising language is all its own' - Sydney Morning Herald
“These guys are incredible and would go down beautifully there at the (Wauchope Arts) hall” – Nick Garbett
