Heritage Talk: Enchanted Beneath the Bluff
About
Within a place of love, sorrow and salvation, where Elwood’s Swamp met St Kilda’s Red Bluff, two daring Theosophists – Agnes Simmons and Geraldine Minet – sought to bring prosperity to Colonial Victoria of the 1890’s in the midst of the Depression, challenging providence and geology.Their engine ‘Helena’ was fired up to bore deeper for their black diamonds than any other coal exploration in the world!
Join us for a presentation by local historians Isaac Hermann and Heather Arnold on this little known aspect of Elwood’s history.
The talk will be specially introduced by architect and former Councillor David Brand.
