The ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards celebrate people with disability who are leaders in our community and provide acknowledgment of the outstanding achievements of business, organisations and individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to encourage, support and welcome people with disability in their workplace, business and community in the ACT.
The Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards first held in 2005, is a highly anticipated event on the Canberra social calendar. The 2023 event will take place on Wednesday 6 December 2023 at Hotel Realm.
This years keynote speaker is Em Rusciano. She is one of Australia’s most well-rounded performers. With her finger in every piece of the performing pie, Em has co-hosted breakfast radio, sold out the Sydney Opera House with her live comedy shows, released chart-topping songs, books and audiobooks.
She recently addressed the prestigious National Press Club of Australia on the subject of ADHD and her son’s autism. She has been widely praised for the speech and the effect it’s had on helping to remove the stigma around neuro-divergence.
In this sold-out address to the National Press Club in 2022, Em talked about life before and after her ADHD diagnosis and the impact ADHD has had on her professional and personal life.
During her address, Rusciano called for a cultural and attitudinal shift within the wider community when it comes to neurodivergent individuals saying, “The message should not be that the neurodivergent community are lacking or less than, but that we are different and equally worthy,” adding, “when we are not forced to try and fit into a framework and societal structure that was built for people who aren’t like us, we can be pretty impressive!“
