FCO Mozart and Dvorak at the Monastery
About
FCO is back with 2 great works.Dvorak’s Cello Concerto is arguably the greatest of all cello concertos. All 3 movements are richly melodious, full of emotional depth and sheer beauty. Brahms, his friend and benefactor, growled: "Why in the world didn't I know one could write a cello concerto like this? If I'd only known I'd have done it long ago!"
We are privileged to welcome back the incredibly talented young cellist Max Wung. Scored for a full romantic orchestra and conducted by John Keene, this will be a memorable FCO concert, made possible by a generous benefactor.
Symphony No 39 is the first of Mozart’s last 3, standing apart from his previous symphonic repertoire in innovation, emotion, increased dissonance, and profound content. “The opening is so majestic… it then becomes fiery, full, ineffably grand and rich in ideas.”
