Webinar: Documentary on Wendy Lowenstein with Q&A
About“What Wendy Found" is a 25min documentary using archival material to tell the story of two women integral to preserving, publishing & reviving early Australian social culture, as well as the 1950-60's Australian folk music revival. Wendy Lowenstein edited "Australia Tradition" and traveled Australia collecting Outback oral histories. She authored "Weevils in the Flour" and was a pioneering Australian Oral Historian. Shirley Andrews collected, published and called the early colonial dances and directed the first National folk festival.
Martie Lowenstein & filmmaker Richard Lowenstein received the 2023 National Folk Fellowship from the National Library & National Folk Festival to produce the film. Wendy Lowenstein was their mother.
After a short introduction, the film will be shown, followed by a Q&A with Martie & Richard, covering the content of the film and issues around its making: access to and use of archives, and the editing process, plus funding and distribution for such projects
