Women's Business Network lunch
Overcoming barriers for employment with Elly Desmarchelier

The labour market in Australia continues to experience ongoing challenges due to labour shortages sector wide. To overcome this barrier, businesses should be reviewing their recruitment strategy and expanding on their options in finding talent.
Join us to hear Elly Desmarchelier, a passionate advocate for disability rights and a proud disabled woman. Elly will share the many benefits of employing a person with a disability, which can bring valuable skills and a new perspective to your business while improving the outcomes and lives of people with disability.
Elly was the national spokesperson for the Defend Our NDIS campaign during the 2022 Federal election and was a speaker at the Prime Minister’s 2022 Jobs and Skills Summit.Elly has appeared on national TV shows such as The Project, ABC’s The Drum, Q&A and 7:30, and has featured at the Sydney Opera House for the 2023 All About Women Festival, sharing her journey on being a disabled woman in modern society.
Fuelling her advocacy, Elly is determined to create change for the 1 in 5 Australians with disability and believes that’s only possible if people with disability have a seat at the table.
This event will be linked to our Expanding Horizons project, a partnered initiative between Council and Holmesglen Institute to build the confidence and capability of organisations and SMEs to recruit and retain people with disability.
Come and join us at this lunch to be inspired, learn and connect with your peers.
