KELVIN CONFIDENTIAL
About
For the final Kelvin Confidential for 2023, James Hewison has the great pleasure to be hosting two towering cultural icons as our guests: internationally lauded filmmaker Fred Schepisi AO and virtuoso musician Paul Grabowsky AO.
Fred's extraordinary career spans genres and continents, commencing with his breakthrough debut THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND, then THE CHANT OF JIMMIE BLACKSMITH before Hollywood beckoned and he helmed such diverse films as PLENTY with Meryl Streep and ROXANNE with Steve Martin. He returned to Australia to direct EVIL ANGELS starring Streep once again. His creative curiosity and renowned skills with actors then produced SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION with a young Will Smith and then the deeply affecting LAST ORDERS starring an ensemble including Sir Michael Caine, Bob Hoskins, Tom Courtney, Ray Winstone and Helen Mirren. His last feature film made in Australia is adapted from Patrick White's THE EYE OF THE STORM and stars Judy Davis and Geoffrey Rush.
Paul is one of Australia's most distinguished, multi award-winning artists; a pianist, composer, arranger, conductor, festival director, Paul has been a longtime collaborator of Fred's (himself a jazz enthusiast). From defining work with Paul Kelly, the late Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter to the Australian Art Orchestra and the MSO most recently, like his frequent collaborator Fred, Paul remains endlessly curious and mercurial in his creative explorations.
- Paul will play a selection of work that he composed for Fred's films.
- Fred will also have a selection of his delicious - and rare - Mornington Peninsula wines to taste by the glass (at bar prices).
This Kelvin Confidential event will take place upstairs in the Kelvin Ballroom. The event is free and open to members and non-members, with food and drinks available from the bar. Kelvin Confidential takes place on the first Wednesday of each month.
