King Edward Memorial Hospital offers this free* 2 hour Class to pregnant people who are birthing at under the Women's and Newborn Services (King Edward Memorial Hospital, Family Birth Centre or Osborne Park Hospital).

Please note: This workshop includes the same content as SESSION 4 of the 'Preparing for Birth and Parenting' course (both in-person and online options), please DO NOT book both classes as they will be duplicate sessions. 

CONTENT

One 2 hour evening, LIVE ONLINE class for first time parents about how to care for their newborn baby, taught by experienced and knowledgeable midwives.

Topics include:

• Early communication with your baby
• Playing, holding and settling your newborn
• Safe infant sleeping and what to expect with newborn sleep
• Nappy changing, bathing and dressing your baby
• Baby wearing
• Postpartum changes
• Positive relationships postpartum
• Community supports and resources

ELIGIBILITY

• Birthing under the Women's and Newborn Services (King Edward Memorial Hospital, Family Birth Centre or Osborne Park Hospital)

RECOMMENDED GESTATION TO BOOK

• We recommend attending a class for when you are 30 -36 weeks

• We recommend booking this class in advance, once you have reached 20 weeks

LOCATION

This class is held ONLINE – 6.30pm - 8.30pm for pregnant people and their support person. You will be provided with a link to Microsoft Teams with the confirmation email for your booking.

When you follow the provided link, you will be asked to enter a name into a free text box prior to being admitted to the virtual waiting room. The name that you provide will be visible to other attendees to the session. If you prefer to remain anonymous you can type 'anonymous' or use a nickname/initials if you wish. You will be requested to email your identifiers to the parent education email so that we can confirm attendance. 

TICKET INSTRUCTIONS

• You only need to book 1 ticket - support people do not need their own ticket.

• When booking, please use the pregnant person's name and Medical Reference Number (see Image Below). This can be found on your handheld pregnancy record.
