C GRADE / WHITEWATER- beginners in waves to 2 ft / 1 metre swell, sand / reef bottom, easy beach access, assisted / unassisted, up to catching small unbroken waves independently.

 B GRADE / INTERMEDIATE – independently catching unbroken waves up to 3 ft/ 1.5 metre swell, beginning to duck dive waves, learning to link turns, comfortable with reef and sand bottom waves, access via rocks and sand beach.

 A GRADE / ADVANCED – independently catching unbroken waves up to 4-6 ft / 2.5-3.0 metre swell, able to duck dive waves,  get out the back,  able to link multiple turns and trying advanced manoeuvres, applying competition strategies, access via rocks and sand beach and comfortable surfing all wave types and breaks. A Grade will surf the best possible waves on the day.
