World Poetry Day 2024
Come along to hear readings by local poets Brendan Ryan, Lyn Chatham, Anthony Lynch, Julie Maclean and Jo Langdon, as well as our internationally-based Virtual Writer in Residence, Alice Eaves, who will be joining us online from her home in Edinburgh.
Prize-winning poet, critic, and editor, David McCooey, will MC the evening.
World Poetry Day was declared by UNESCO in 1999. The purpose of the day is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world and, as the UNESCO session declaring the day says, to ‘give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements.’ The Geelong Regional Library Corporation has celebrated World Poetry Day on 21 March since 2011.
The evening will also include a mid-way break for refreshments, plus the announcement of the Local Word Writing Prize winner. The poets' books will be available for purchase on the night.
Tickets $20pp OR $10 for GRLC Members (free to join)
