A Heritage Walk through Lower Acton, from 1911 to 1940s the centre of operations for the creation of the Federal Capital. Site of the first government offices, bank, police station, plant nursery etc. Also the forgotten site of the first European settlement in ACT in 1824. So many forgotten Canberra ‘firsts’ here! We will bring the area to life with stories and early photos.Meet in ANU car park 75 (free parking), entrance opposite the entrance to Old Canberra House, Lennox Crossing, Acton.
Note that this is the first of two different walks in Acton. Walk 2 is on Sunday 28 April in Lower Acton.
This is a Heritage Festival event, held jointly by the National Trust (ACT) and the Canberra and Region Heritage Researchers.
