Preparation for Pointe

Livestream

This interactive, practical 1-hour workshop is for teachers who are progressing students onto working en pointe. Teachers will learn how to appropriately teach exercises in preparation for pointe with a series of progressions from a physiotherapists' perspective.

The aims of this workshop are to:

  • Provide teachers an understanding of what is required biomechanically of a body to work en pointe and how this impacts the student
  • Use an interactive format to explore the concept of pre-pointe preparation as a whole body
  • Demonstrate and teach a series of exercises targeting the core, thoracic area, adductors, gluteals and lower leg
  • Enable teachers to gain practical experience of each exercise to utlisie with their students in class

On completion of the course, you will:

  • Have an increased understanding of the connection between pointe work and major muscle groups and myofascial chains
  • Be able to demonstrate a sequence of exercises to activate the core, lower leg and gluteals
  • Be able to layer these exericses into your regular classes
  • Understand the timeframes around improvement after the introduction to these exercises
