About

Between Friday 26 April and Monday 29 April, you’re invited to find, photograph and share Stonnington wildlife as part of the 2024 City Nature Challenge.

To help get you inspired and show you how it’s done, we’re holding two free nature discovery tours right here in Stonnington.

Each tour will be guided by local volunteers and local wildlife experts to help you find, photograph and share our City's local wild plants, fungi, insects and animals, on the iNaturalist app.

You’ll also learn about the important ecological role each creature and plant plays in our urban landscape.

Tours are free but spots are limited so register now!
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Glen Iris Wetland Event on Saturday 27 April has been cancelled

What should I bring to a nature discovery tour?

Photos (from right): Greengrocer Cicada (Victoria Gardens, Prahran), Stinkhorn Fungus (Malvern Valley Golf Course, Malvern East), Rainbow Lorikeet (Gardiners Creek, Malvern East)

What is the City Nature Challenge?

From Friday 26 to Monday 29 April, Stonnington is joining over 30 Greater Melbourne councils to compete against hundreds of cities from around the world in the global 2024 City Nature Challenge. Over a period of four days, make as many observations of wild insects, animals, fungi and plants as possible, by taking photos of what you see in your neighbourhood and uploading these to the iNaturalist app. You can take part in this excting citizen science event during one of our two weekend nature discovery tours, by making observations using the iNaturalist app any time during the 4 days.
