Maxwell Davies’ Farewell To Stromness and Vaughan-Williams’ Six Studies highlight English themes.
Australian composers showcase flute music from Derek’s release, including Lily’s Garden by Brian Brown. Traditional Irish songs like The Wild Geese are featured, alongside Percy Grainger’s Scotch Strathspey and Reel.
Derek Jones, Head of Woodwind at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, resides in Woodend. David Adams, now in the UK, plays a 1919 Heckel bassoon. Peter de Jager, a Melbourne-based pianist, won the Australian International Chopin Competition in 2011 and explores diverse musical genres, currently learning the Arabic oud.
