These school holidays, the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) invites students to participate in a series of ballet classes, led by experienced Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examiners who are experts in the RAD syllabus.
The examiners lead the classes and focus on coaching the syllabus - this is a great way to prepare for RAD exams, keep up fitness during the school holidays, and to further refine ballet technique. Don't miss out!

Please note, students can attend the course even if they don't have full knowledge of their level yet. Students are welcome to attend as long as they can copy/follow along with the other students and don’t expect to be taught the syllabus – the examiners are coaching rather than teaching.

Class Locations
The classes are held across two locations this year due to unavailability of the exam studio across all dates. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Tutors
Debra Whitten
Debra graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Diploma in Dance and has ran her own school since – offering classes from 2 years old to full time vocational training. Debra is an RAD examiner both in Australia and overseas and has trained numerous successful and outstanding dancers at both her own school and as a faculty member of the Queensland Dance School of Excellence for over eighteen years.
Christine Atkinson
Christine trained at the Welsh National Ballet, the Rambert School of Ballet, Mercury Theatre, London. After completing her training she went on to dance professionally and then to teach for The Welsh Arts Council and Ogwr Borough Council. She completed both the RAD Teaching Diploma and Teaching Certificate with Distinction and is an examiner and freelance tutor for the Royal Academy of Dance.
Terms and Conditions of Entry
- Entries are via Trybooking only and close when classes reach 25 students per class or at 8AM Monday 1 April 2024.
- The entry fee is non-refundable for change-of-mind, bookings are not transferable and late entries cannot be accepted.
- Students should attend all classes for their level, and part-payment or part-refunds are not possible for any days missed.
- Ideally students attending the course should have a sound knowledge of the syllabus and their chosen variations, however this is not a pre-requisite. Students are welcome to attend as long as they can copy/follow along with the other students and don’t expect to be taught the syllabus – this course is for coaching.
- Students are to wear examination attire in all classes, and props should be brought and used for dances where applicable (character shoes and skirts, pointe shoes, half tutus)
- Students must be in street attire and shoes before they leave the venue.
- A refund is only available if a written request is made and accompanied by a medical certificate prior to 5:00pm on the day prior to the course start date, outlining that the student can no longer attend.
- The information is correct at time of publication and RAD reserves the right to make any changes where necessary, without notice, including change in tutors, times, etc. If the activity is cancelled full refunds will be paid.
- RAD should be notified in writing of any medical conditions when enrolling students in the Course. Students participate at their own risk.
- It is the student’s and/or parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to ensure all appropriate medical and health arrangements are in place for the student prior to attendance at the course.
- In the event of a medical emergency, RAD staff will obtain medical assistance as required.
- Unless otherwise directed by the parent/guardian it is accepted that photographic images taken during this event/course may be used for RAD promotional/reporting purposes.
- The RAD has safeguarding policy and procedures in place. Some physical contact may be necessary by a member of the faculty to demonstrate exercises or if a member of staff needs to administer first aid. Students attending do so at their own risk.
- Parents/ Guardians are responsible for students’ travel to and from the venue. Students must be collected by a Parent /Guardian immediately after the completion of their class. Should you give your child permission to leave the venue without parent supervision, please notify Event Organiser
- Teachers attending the Teacher Viewing must not talk or distract the teacher and/or students during the class or take away from the primary delivery of the course. Teachers attending a full day can use the class towards Independent CPD requirements.
- RAD Australia follows all current government and public health COVID-19 requirements - please refer to QLD Government website for current guidelines and advice prior to registering or attending any part of this event.
