Daydreams and Nightmares - The Art and Music of Trauma

Join us for an intimate lecture-concert featuring Dr. Seumas Spark, artist Chris Latham and artist Dr Edward Neeman, focusing on art and music from Australian WW2 internment camps. Exploring performances of works like Boaz Bischofswerder's Phantasia Judaica. The event also includes Dr. Spark’s documentary on the Dunera Boys’ artworks and an excerpt from Felix Werder's 1st Symphony, Tatura, capturing his internment experiences.

Dr Seumas Spark
Dr Seumas Spark is an Adjunct Research Fellow in History at Monash University and a leading expert on the history of the Dunera Boys. He is the co-author of the two-volume history Dunera Lives and has extensive knowledge and expertise in the field.

Chris Latham OAM
Christopher Latham OAM is the Australian War Memorial’s first musical artist-in-residence. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate by the University of Canberra, the order of Arts and Letters by France and the Medal of the Order of Australia for his work on music and war. All his work is made to lighten the burden of trauma, and to help those affected, to heal.

Dr Edward Neeman
The Australian-American pianist Edward Neeman, praised as a “true artist” across five continents, boasts top prizes in international piano competitions. He's collaborated with acclaimed musicians worldwide and performs duets with his wife, Dr. Stephanie Neeman. Holding degrees from prestigious institutions, Dr. Neeman teaches piano at the Australian National University and serves as Artist Faculty at the ELMS Conservatory in Jakarta.
