The Sentimental Bloke
About
Shot in the streets of Sydney in 1919, the silent film The Sentimental Bloke is one of the first feature films ever made – and an Australian treasure.Based on the works of poet C.J. Dennis, The Sentimental Bloke captures the language and lifestyle (and loves) of an emerging culture in turn-of-the century Australian cities.
In 1995, one of our most talented musicians and composers, Jen Anderson (Weddings, Parties, Anything; Archie Roach; Pandora’s Box; Ablaze), was commissioned to write a new score for The Sentimental Bloke.
Then, in the mid-2000s, Jen took The Sentimental Bloke film on a world tour, where she performed with a new band, put together to accompany the film – The Larrikins, comprising Jen, Dave Evans and Dan Warner. The Larrikins performed the film to enthusiastic acclaim at, among others, the London International Film Festival, the Pordenone Silent film Festival (Italy), the Telluride Film Festival (Colorado USA) and the Tokyo Film Festival (Japan).
