Dancers' Hip - What's Realistic?

This 1-hour livestream workshop explores common hip presentations in a dance physios’ clinic, including front hip pain, clicking hips, growing pains for the young dancers, subluxations and what to do about these conditions. It will review hip anatomy for the adult dancer and the growing young dancer and examine realistic hip mobility ranges and exercises to help with improving mobility safely, followed by practical tips and explanations for the common injuries seen in dancers, teaching you key assessments that you can perform in the studio, and cueing/ training techniques to reduce pain in the class. 

The aim of this workshop is to enhance the understanding of hip anatomy, effective mobility exercise sequences, and training principles, to reduce pain and improve range of motion for dancers with painful hips.

On completion of the course, you will:

• Have gained a thorough understanding of hip anatomy for both the growing and adult dancer,
• Have learnt effective exercises to improve hip range of motion, in both turn-in and turn-out range,
• Have knowledge of effective hip warm up sequence to unlock painful and ‘sticky’ hips safely before class,
• Be able to use effective cues in class to reduce pain and increase range for students with front hip pain and clicky hips, and
• Learn movement sequences to improve turnout and extensions.
